A Fulton Market Office Renovation

A San Francisco based tech firm expanded into Chicago’s Fulton Market in 2019. Aside from the company’s HQ, the new location would be the first of the company’s global offices to have a technology and engineering presence, reflective of the Windy City’s existing engineering talent and exceptional university system.

The company, named to Inc.’s Best Workplaces list in 2018 and 2019, would require audiovisual and conferencing technology to support multiple collaboration spaces including larger conference rooms, small huddle rooms, an all-hands multi-purpose room, soundproof ROOM office phone booths, two kitchenettes, a wellness room and more. OSA was brought in to install the systems.

The biggest challenge for the client was settling on a platform for the soft codec. A few vendors in their existing space had made the decision to use Dolby Voice Room. With more conference rooms per square feet than most offices, they leveraged the Dolby Voice Room’s video conferencing solution with a Samsung 4K TV and USB camera in every conference room, big and small. The TVs ranged in size from 43″ in the small huddle rooms to dual 85″ screens in the largest conference room.

An open collaboration area was positioned in each corner of the floorplan with a large wall-mounted flat-panel display where digital signage is played. These areas can be converted to a collaboration space using local HDMI input plates.

A break room, with an open-concept kitchen in the rear, doubles as a town hall/multi-purpose gathering space. It featured a 137″ 16:10 drop-down motorized screen paired with an Epson laser projector. Local HDMI wall plates were installed in columns on either side of the screen for presenters. At the rear of the room are two ceiling-hung Samsung 65″ 4K TVs for additional video support. With a Crestron DigitalMedia matrix switcher installed, these screens can show shared and/or separate content from the main projection display. To support town hall meetings, a Vaddio UHD PTZ camera is ceiling-mounted and tied to a soft codec as well as Shure wireless microphones. And for audio support, OSA hung JBL Control 64P/T compact, full-range pendant loudspeakers. The systems are controlled by a Crestron processor, located in the IT room.

When meetings are not taking place, employees enjoy watching TV on the displays and streaming music, controlled from a second wall-mounted iPad dedicated to music selection, using the Crestron app.

All in all, the newly renovated office space offers the technology necessary for any firm to maintain its status as a top-rated workplace!
