City Electric Supply’s “The Journey”

NAMC

In 2018, City Electric Supply hosted their third biennial North American Manager’s Conference (NAMC) at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. The theme for the NAMC was “The Journey” representing the company’s path as they grow their business on personal and professional levels, and the agenda featured a mixture of business sessions and fun for over 1200 attendees – the largest conference in their company history.

Having built a strong relationship with producer agencyEA on other events, OSA was brought in to provide all aspects of event technology, including audio, video, lighting, staging and scenic.

From the Thursday night talent show, “City’s Got Talent,” which kicked off the conference to Friday’s general sessions to an awards presentation on Saturday and finally, a closing concert by Blues Traveler, the main room served a variety of functions. Turnovers had to occur after each day’s events. The first two days featured a more intimate seating layout, and on the last day grandstands were added for a concert feel.

In addition to the main room, there were several breakouts and ancillary rooms to support. On Friday night, attendees enjoyed “Bets in the Backwoods” – a casino-themed evening featuring a local band, food & beverage and a host of games. The following morning attendees participated in “Counter Day” in the Expo Hall, which featured vendor presentations, and a dramatic Kabuki effect for the opening of this smaller general session. And on the final evening, prior to the closing concert, attendees enjoyed a performance by dueling pianos in the foyer.

Intelligent Lighting

OSA deployed an immersive lighting package including stage, entertainment-specific requests and room ambiance, as well as backstage safety lighting.

OSA utilized automated lighting fixtures from Martin, including the MAC Viper Performance and MAC Aura, along with Chroma-Q® Color Force 12™ LED fixtures.

The combined package lent a full color palette and a wide selection of gobo patterns which provided texture and atmosphere for the meeting functions and the movement and spectacular effects for the entertainment functions.

Special Effects

Ultratec Radiance Hazers were utilized to enhance the atmospheric effects.

For Counter Day, lighting fixtures illuminated a Kabuki Opening with Solenoid System to add a dramatic impact to the smaller session.

Control Systems

All lighting fixtures were controlled by a lighting console by High End Systems in one room and a Martin console in the other. Additionally OSA connected to the existing architectural system and controlled it from the console.
