Premier Boxing Champions The Return to Primetime
PBC
In 2015, after thirty years, championship boxing returned to primetime as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) with the goal of returning to the sport’s roots – pure and simple boxing, where the fighters’ mentality and physical power alone determine who goes home the winner. To make PBC stick, executive producer Michael Marto of Executive Visions hired OSA to produce a traveling live arena experience for fans both at home and in the audience. The set had to be on the level of a major rock ‘n roll tour and fitting to the combatants, like nothing else in modern day sports.
The team also included Lighting Designer John Featherstone of Lightswitch and Designer Bruce Rodgers of Tribe Design, who helped bring the set to life with an extraordinary set and lighting design to truly wow PBC fans.
With less than 3 months to design & prepare the event details, Technical Producer and Production Manager, Mario Educate of OSA, coordinated a traveling road crew of 30. OSA designed all of the LED and audio, and manged all in- house production and broadcast.
The fighters entered the arena from center stage through the Wall of Thunder which OSA built of Absen A3 Pro 3.9mm LED panels. Then they walked down a cascading walkway to the ring. Above the ring, OSA hung a four-sided LED scoreboard, surrounded by an LED Ring of Honor for an impressive visual effect. All in all, the event design encompassed over 2000 LED tiles. A secondary ring supported lighting instruments a Martin Audio MLA PA and 32 HD cameras for 360 viewing of the fight.
The touring production required 19 semis of gear and 125 local crew for each of 45 event dates within a 6 month period. Each stop on the tour was broadcasted live on primetime television networks, including NBC, CBS, ESPN, NBCSN and Spike.
