OSA International, Inc. Migrates to Clear-Com HelixNet® Partyline™ to Enhance Event Communications

OSA International Continues to Invest in New Technology to Provide its Clients with the Highest Level of Event Technical Services

OSA International, Inc., one of the industry’s leading audio visual solutions providers for live events and entertainment, announces its transition over the past year from the standard analog partyline to the Clear-Com® HelixNet™ Partyline, the industry’s first digital network-based partyline intercom system to enhance onsite event communications.

“Our goal is to consistently provide our clients with the most efficient service and solution for their events and ensure we help make their job easier,” says OSA’s CEO & Founder Mario Educate. “We take this into consideration for every new process implemented and technology acquired. Clear-Com’s HelixNet Partyline is our onsite event communication of choice because of its exceptional audio quality, flexibility, ease of use, and expandable platform ensures all technical aspects of an event are executed as planned.”

Onsite production communications between engineers, technical teams, producers and other key professionals is a critical element to executing an event successfully. It’s imperative to have ongoing, reliable communication between personnel at all times from anywhere within the venue. Above that, the system has to be easy and sound great. Ultimately, communication is the most important aspect of every show, and when the event teams are wearing a com set for 12 to 16 hours a day the quality has to be there.

“We evaluated HelixNet before it was released to the market, and we saw the next generation of event communications,” says OSA’s Vice President Jim Risgin. “Over the past year we have nearly migrated all of our conventional partyline systems to HelixNet, based on our technical teams and clients feedback. Bottom line results are the system is user friendly, simple to implement, and the reliability is unmatched. Our ability to communicate without fail allows us all to do our designated jobs onsite and on cue every time.  Add to this, the fact HelixNet is configurable without computers or system resets adds to the clients confidence the system will perform with ease every time.”

The HelixNet difference noted by clients, engineers and technicians:

  • Premium sound quality with no interference, matching the best digital matrix system available
  • Flexibility for any user on any station to access the channel they need at anytime throughout a single event
  • Easily add multiple channels and stations within seconds to meet client needs
  • New additions to the product line, including the remote station and the speaker station, give the flexibility of a matrix system with the ease of a standard partyline system
  • Multiple system interfaces allow seamless interface to any com system, such as 2 wire, 4 wire or network
  • Cable agnostic, supporting any passive splitter or cable combination to be used at any length with no limitations commonly associated with other digital partyline systems

OSA has one of the largest and exponentially diverse inventories within the industry, with the most impressive of leading edge technologies in the world. By having complete quality control over its inventory, OSA has the advantage of truly understanding the technology and being able to give its clients the best results.

OSA Integrated Solutions Equips the ROOF on theWit in Downtown Chicago with a Permanent 3D Mapping Installation

OSA Integrated Solutions Helps Create a Multi-Purpose Entertainment Venue at the ROOF

OSA Integrated Solutions, powered by OSA International, Inc., and one of the leading commercial and residential systems integrators for audio visual, automation, lighting, and staging systems, outfitted the ROOF on theWit with the technology for the “theWall,” a permanent 3D mapping installation to elevate theWit’s guest entertainment experience and meet business clients’ needs for innovative, high-impact corporate events and presentations. It is the first architectural renovation of its kind in the U.S.

theWit, a AAA four diamond hotel, enlisted OSA Integrated Solutions to help create the ultimate audio visual experience at the ROOF, Chicago’s premiere rooftop bar and cocktail lounge, by creating the technology behind “theWall.” Standing 20-feet wide by 12-feet tall, the custom designed mezzanine 3D projection surface is outfitted with the most advanced media servers, high-tech robotic cameras, elaborate stage lighting, motion production capabilities, and a retractable 193-inch diagonal HDTV screen.

The installation of “theWall” was an aggressive one-week project requiring flawless coordination between vendors, including McHugh Construction Company, 555 International, Koo & Associates Ltd., and WAICO, to build the wall and for OSA Integrated Solutions to incorporate the technology. OSA Integrated Solutions provided the custom designs to integrate the technology, consulting services, as well as the installation schematic diagrams of the video system and switching components, projector, electric lift, new Crestron touchpanel control, and updating the current touchpanel control. During the one-week period, the OSA Integrated Solutions project team installed and integrated the technology to bring it all together and help deliver an extraordinary guest experience.

“This was a unique and challenging installation for Integrated Solutions, and we were honored theWit’s CEO and Founder Scott Greenberg asked us to participate in this project,” says OSA’s Vice President Philip Lentini. “Scott is a visionary and his idea of converging technology and entertainment in this manner is just one example of his creativity. It also shows his dedication to his guests by providing a unique entertainment experience as well as recreating the space to accommodate corporate and specials events. This was an exciting venture.”

The motion production capabilities projected onto “theWall” take the ROOF’s entertainment to a new level. An 8-foot high stage puts the world’s most popular electronic DJs above the crowd, mixing talent and video in the background, with 3D projection mapping video moving beat by beat to the music and creating a live DJ concert performance. The ROOF successfully united hospitality and entertainment upon the completion of this renovation and installation. This type of experience and technology is typically reserved for national entertainment productions and broadcasts, making OSA, one of the industry’s leading audio visual solutions providers for live events and entertainment, a natural partner.

OSA International, Inc., Reports Significant Growth in Live Event and Entertainment Services

OSA International Integrates Company Divisions, Including On Stage Audio, Media Solutions, Integrated Solutions, M.T. Custom Cases, and On Stage Brokers

OSA International, Inc., one of the industry’s leading audio visual solutions provider for live events and entertainment, announces significant growth and driving expansion in 2013 within all divisions of the company. A client-centric company, OSA has combined all five of its divisions, invested in new technology, and opened a new office in Nashville to enhance services to its growing clientele.

“Tracking our 2013 business and our clients’ needs, it made sense to combine all of our divisions under OSA International, Inc., which includes On Stage Audio, Media Solutions, Integrated Solutions, M.T. Custom Cases, and On Stage Brokers,” states OSA’s CEO and Founder Mario Educate. “We’ve seen more of our clients wanting services from multiple divisions, making this consolidation a natural next step.”

Media Solutions is the youngest within the OSA family, purchased in 2011. The company remained a separate entity for the past two years to assure its clients the quality of services and solutions they relied on would continue.

“Our clients have more than benefitted from the acquisition, as it has given them access to more talent and better technology, and we’ve continuously exceeded expectations,” states OSA’s Vice President of Media Solutions Mark Yokota. “In 2013 alone, we’ve exponentially increased our inventory of large screen displays, Barco LED tiles and FSN Switchers, Christie and DP projectors, and much more. Our clients’ needs come first, and by having state-of-the-art technology in our inventory, operated by the best talent in the industry, allows us to make their vision a reality.”

Additionally, OSA has become the largest inventory holder of Martin Audio MLA and MLA Compact enclosures in North America, and second largest in the world. OSA recognized early on MLA technology is the now and future of loudspeaker arrays for any event and venue, even the most acoustically challenging locations. The sound quality and precision capabilities give audio engineers a single solution to delivering sound consistently throughout a venue, making it the system of choice for some of the largest performers and festivals today.

“Sound ordinances for outside venues is a growing issue and the MLA sound systems is the solution,” states Educate. “MLA delivers audio with precision. Engineers have complete control, and they are able to contain the audio within specified boundaries, while making sure the farthest seat from stage receives the same sound quality as the front row. This is one of the biggest advances in audio technology I’ve seen in many years.”

OSA has installed and used the MLA system for some of the largest venues in the country. The Ravinia Festival equipped the pavilion stage for its 2013 summer schedule and received zero sound complaints from the surrounding residential neighborhood, as well as rave reviews from some of the biggest acts. The summer 2013 schedule at the Ravinia Festival featured Steely Dan, Matchbox 20, Fleetwood Mac, and many more.

OSA’s M.T. Custom Cases also experienced substantial growth in 2013, with new case and display designs for the event and touring industries. M.T. designed and built a new and unique modular stack rack that not only enhances the show site appearance backstage but also decreases setup time, as it can be pre-assembled, including custom wiring, before arriving to the destination. Additionally, M.T. designed and fabricated new VRack flying frames, equipped with power and input panels. All M.T. cases and displays are constructed with its exclusive, patented reinforcement design, ensuring durability and quality. Continuing into 2014, M.T. has OEM plans with some of the largest audio visual manufacturers in the industry.

While 2013 brought significant growth, OSA already sees that trend moving into 2014 with a heavy schedule of live production work for NBA, corporate shows, product launches, and TV broadcasts. “We have a lot of plans in motion to ensure we continue to provide the ultimate client and audience experience,” says Educate.

OSA International, Inc. Expands, Builds North America’s Largest Martin Audio MLA Inventory

With three locations in Chicago, Las Vegas and Nashville and a hectic schedule of live production work, corporate shows, product launches, TV broadcasts and special events; OSA International, Inc. continues its national growth in audio rentals, service and production.

As part of that growth, OSA recently purchased a number of additional Martin Audio MLA and MLA Compact enclosures, resulting in OSA having the largest MLA inventory in North America. With this and other recent sales, the total number of MLA cabinets deployed worldwide is well over 3,000 cabinets at this point.

Asked about the MLA acquisition, OSA Vice President Jim Risgin said, “We believe in the product, technology and, most importantly, the result that MLA delivers.”

In addition to successful deployments of MLA and MLA Compact at a growing number of corporate and special events, OSA recently equipped the pavilion stage at Ravinia Festival with the MLA system, the first new PA system at North America’s oldest music festival in a decade. Ravinia welcomes about 600,000 guests every summer to over 100 events, including the annual residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since Ravinia’s 1904 inception, a residential neighborhood has grown around the concert venue resulting in Ravinia becoming increasingly sensitive to containing sound within its gates.

Asked why MLA was chosen, Jim responds, “Sound is crucial in two ways to outdoor concert presenters who not only want to provide the best musical experience they can to their attendees but who also want to prevent that music from reaching unintended listeners. We are proud Ravinia chose us to help them present a premium customer experience and to help them be a good neighbor to the residents of its home community.”

Expanding on his feelings about MLA, Jim points out, “It’s the first technology in the last 30 plus years that is truly delivering sound in a new and exciting way as far as I’m concerned. Even with the obvious benefits the Multi Cellular drive brings such as SPL control, consistent audience coverage as well as out of area rejection, it still amazes me how good it sounds every time I turn on the system. Simply input the room calculations and MLA in turn delivers the expected coverage as well as giving the engineer a stellar sonic canvas to work with. Now I can allocate my time to my craft and art of mixing rather than spending the time mastering conventional systems to gain similar results. The timesaving translates into both a better end product for our clients as well as savings in time and labor.

“In terms of its performance, MLA never runs out, it never stops. I think it’s the best sounding system with the most even coverage out of the box. Every seat gets the same high quality sound regardless of the location, which helps our clients reduce costs for acoustical treatments in some venues. At this point, the level of the MLA system control has become second nature. For me to work on something other than MLA has become an eye-opener rather than the other way around.”

About MLA™ (Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array)

The result of many years of intensive R&D, MLA’s methodology replaces trial-and-error array design with intelligent numerical optimization of the array’s output based on a highly accurate acoustic model. The multi-cellular format has six individual cells in each enclosure, each with its own DSP and amplification.

With up to 24 enclosures, each MLA array has up to 144 cells — too great a number to optimize manually, or by ear. Instead, Martin Audio’s proprietary Display2™ system design software automatically calculates FIR DSP filters for each cell and a redundant-ring audio network (U-NET™) downloads the settings into each array enclosure. Martin Audio’s VU-NET™ software provides real-time control and monitoring of the system.

MLA delivers a frequency response and SPL consistency never before achievable; a very high system output (140dB peak, per cabinet @1m); Automatic optimization of the array, both physically (splay angles) and electronically (DSP); Computer control and monitoring of the entire system, and total control of sound system balance for engineers and sound technicians.

MLA is fully integrated, with Class D amplification, DSP and U-NET digital audio network built into each enclosure. MLA complete systems are ready-to-use, with MLA, MLD and MLX enclosures, flying hardware, software, cabling and training all supplied. Everything needed is included. All ancillary items — from tablet PC and Merlin™ controller to network interconnects and mains distro — are also included in the complete system package. This ensures full compatibility worldwide, down to cabling and accessories.

Additional features include 90° x 7.5° dispersion; a compact size (1136mm wide x 372mm high x 675mm deep), one-box-fits-all (festivals to theaters) application range and a global voltage, power factor corrected power supply.

MLA’s compact size and very high output allows it to be shipped using smaller trucks, offering considerable savings and reduced carbon footprint. The system also includes the MLX powered, flyable subwoofer capable of an unprecedented measured peak output of 150dB @ 1m; MLD downfill cabinet, and Merlin 4-in/10-out system controller and network hub. Audio input is via analog, AES3 or U-NET.

By adopting these principles and system components MLA is optimized for every member of the audience — from a 2,000 capacity theater, to a 20,000-seat arena, to a 100,000-person festival site. It will deliver the engineer’s exact mix to every seat (up to over 150 meters) with precision, exceptional power and clarity.
